Oklahoma loses two starters

Oklahoma starting quarterback Rhett Bomar will not play for the Sooners this season following an investigation by the team, sources told ESPN's Joe Schad and ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach on Wednesday. Sophomore J.D. Quinn, who was expected to start at guard, was also dismissed.

Oklahoma said that two players had been dismissed by the team but did not identify them. The school said in a statement that the players violated NCAA rules by working at a private business and taking "payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked."

Oklahoma seems to have a problem with car dealerships and scholar athletes. Seems like Adrian Peterson was also getting preferential treatment earlier in the year when he drove a car off the lot without securing financing. That was caught earlier enough that they were able to get it handled before it became a violation. Lucky for him he didn't drive a fruit basket out of the dealership

Despite our losses over the last few days it seems Oklahoma got hit a lot harder and it gives us more of a chance in Norman. The new starter will be one of these three, Joey Halzle, a junior transfer who passed for 2,077 yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games last season at Golden West (Calif.) Community College, freshman Sam Bradford, or walk-on Hays McEachern.

Oklahoma just got a little more beatable.

I imagine they have a better replacement at guard than it sounds like they have at QB. I'm not sure what type offense Golden West plays, but I don't find the most experienced replacement QB's stats very impressive. Combine that with the jump from CC to D-1(unless he's already redshirted), and, well...it doesn't look good.

This may allow us to stack the line, which we'll probably need to do to stop Peterson anyway, and hopefully wreak a bit of havoc. Dare I say "just like the old days"? I'd have to reread a few things to see if their receivers are good enough to keep us honest, but I think our DB's can hold their and hopefully blitz a bit. I know...I'm going overboard...

Ya, they are in a fix at QB. Peterson can move back, but they weren't that impressed with him at QB, hence the move to WR.

For those that haven't been there yet, the Oklahoma site John linked to has a lot of pretty even-handed info on their situation. I found it worth a read.
